sm_39099MREA welcomes Dr. Chris Mills as president of the Board of Directors. He has been elected by the board to serve a one-year term and help lead MREA’s efforts as the voice of education in Greater Minnesota.

Dr. Mills currently serves as the superintendent of schools and elementary principal for Stephen/Argyle Central. We recently sat down with Dr. Mills to learn more about his involvement in MREA and goals for 2015:

Why did you join the MREA Board?
The opportunity to join the MREA Board provided an opportunity to become a leading advocate for rural students and schools across the state. The Board provides leadership to identify priorities for legislative action through the diverse views of school board members, teachers and administrators.  The work we have done through my service on the board has made a difference for rural students and schools.

What have you enjoyed most about your time with MREA?
The diverse views and experiences of schools from the multiple board members.

Why do you think it is important to be involved in MREA?
MREA has served as the leading voice for rural schools throughout my tenure on the board. As rural schools, it is critical to represent a united voice to accomplish our goals. I have seen our organization grow as we have accomplished many of our common goals to improve education throughout rural Minnesota.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time when you are not serving MREA?
I enjoy working with baseball players in Stephen/Argyle Central.  I have coached various levels of summer baseball for the past 25 years. I have also serve as a Minnesota State High School League official in football, baseball and basketball for the past 25 years. I believe each of these experiences provide a service to the children of our region.

What you are most looking forward to for MREA in 2015?
I believe we will continue to advocate for equity and opportunity in education for rural students and schools. MREA will provide a united voice that represents the needs of our stakeholders. I look forward to working with educational leadership across the state to meet our goals.
