ST Math, created by MIND Research Institute, is a visual instructional program that builds a deep conceptual understanding of math through rigorous learning and creative problem solving to engage, motivate and challenge PreK-8 students toward higher achievement.
Based on applied neuroscience research, ST Math presents math concepts in non-routine ways to engage a variety of learners, personalizes instruction and helps foster creativity. Over the course of a school year, students solve well over 5,000 interactive puzzles, each one providing animated feedback that adapts to a student’s response. Learn more about how it works.
ST Math has shown significant results in student math achievement. Longitudinal and broad-based studies across a wide variety of student groups continue to demonstrate ST Math’s efficacy in building lifelong learners prepared for success in STEM fields.
Independent research firm WestEd recently published the largest study of its kind to evaluate an education technology math program nationally, including over 150,000 students between 2013 and 2016. The study looked at grades 3, 4 and 5 in 474 schools across 16 states.
The study found that schools that consistently used ST Math grew similar schools in statewide math proficiency rank by 14 percentile points.
ST Math was found to have an average effect size of 0.36 on statewide ranking well above what the 0.25 effect size that the federal What Works Clearinghouse defines as “substantively important.”
