The first draft of Minnesota’s new K-12 Academic Standards for English Language Arts are expected to be released on Nov. 11. The ELA Education Standards Committee has been meeting since August to review the standards in reading, writing, speaking, viewing, listening, media literacy, and language. The last time they were reviewed and adopted was 2010.
The state will host Town Hall Meetings beginning Nov. 12, including six in Greater Minnesota. The proposed ELA standards will be available starting Nov. 11 on the MDE’s website.
The date by which all schools must implement the new standards will be determined during the rulemaking process.
MREA encourages our members to engage with the standards committee in this revision process. The standards that are approved will be in place for the next 10 years. View the K-12 Academic Standards Review Schedule.
