MREA Board elections kick off this week, when ballots will be mailed to voting-eligible MREA members. The 13 candidates for the 2017 Board of Directors were announced earlier this month.

Vote to Ensure Continued Leadership

Administrator, school board, and teacher groups in full member districts will each receive one ballot for the open position in their zone. Members are encouraged to vote in December to ensure MREA’s continued successful leadership. Learn about the candidates.

All ballots must be postmarked by December 31, 2016. Ballots postmarked after this date will not be included in the election results. New 2017 Board members will be announced in January.

New Board Vacancy Announced

MREA also seeks to fill a new, previously unannounced mid-term vacancy on the 2017 Board of Directors. Effective January 1, 2017, a vacancy will exist for a School Board Representative in the South Central Zone. Check the zone map to see if your district is included.

The MREA Board seeks candidates to apply for this one-year appointment for calendar year 2017. The position will then be up for election for 2018 next fall. Learn more about the Board.

Applications must be submitted online; a statement of interest and qualifications must be emailed separately to MREA. Candidates must submit their own applications and statements of interest.

Applications are due at 5 pm Friday, December 9. View the application.

Board Member Responsibilities

Under Minnesota nonprofit laws, MREA directors are responsible for the management of the business and affairs of MREA. In carrying out these responsibilities, the law imposes on MREA directors the fiduciary duties of care, loyalty and obedience to the law. View Board & Organizational Policies.

The MREA Board of Directors meets 6 times per year, including the Annual Conference. The 2-day meetings (evening/next morning) are held in St. Paul during the legislative session and in Greater Minnesota outside of session. MREA covers mileage, lodging and meal expenses for board meetings and the conference. View 2017 meeting dates.
