Minnesota policymakers and legislator have brought the alignment of high school, post-secondary education and work force development needs to the forefront over the past year. Your district can enter this conversation in a direct way through participation in one of five Leadership Summits on Aligning Systems through Post Secondary Partnerships for Student Success to be held in December. For the western half of the state, the only site on the schedule is Fergus Falls on December 10. For those MREA member districts that would like a session in Bemidji, Crookston, Morris or Marshall, or another MNSCU or University of Minnesota location, contact Paula Palmer at the Minnesota Department of Education, or contact Jessica Espinosa at Minnesota State College and Universities Systems. Please also notify MREA so we can help advocate.
The 2013 Legislature brought focus on this alignment and individual student planning at the same time they repealed the GRAD Rule, by increasing the requirements for student career planning, and establishing a Career Pathways and Technical Education Advisory Task Force. MREA is tracking this Task Force and will report on actions and recommendations that come from this group. Learn about that work.
